BACKGROUND OF SNAPRAGAN 835
In November 2016, Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 835, a new high-end chip that will fuel many of the most powerful smartphones this year. It replaces Snapdragon 821 as the flagship Qualcomm chip and, apparently, offers better performance and efficiency than its predecessor. This means that smartphones in 2017 are definitely worth it.

QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 835 RELEASE DATE
We do not have an exact release date for Snapdragon 835, because it’s not exactly how the chips work. Qualcomm already supplies manufacturers with a chip, and it will be difficult for them to work on creating their gadgets.
All we know for sure is that in the first half of 2017 we saw devices containing a chip.
Speaking of the upcoming release of the chip, Keith Kressin (Keith Kressin), vice president of product management for Qualcomm, said: “He will be in a lot of devices. Of course, this will be in many smartphones. Be in smartphones, VR and AR devices. “You will see this in standalone mode.
“We are now in production, we are building up a large volume,” added Kressin, who confirmed that Snapdragon 835 devices will be disembarked in the first half of 2017.
QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 835 TELEPHONES
Snapdragon 835, while individual manufacturers will not announce their phones. But given the H12017 release window, there are several clear candidates.
To begin with, Sony has already confirmed that the smartphone Sony Xperia XZ Premium will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, although we do not have hard issues on this phone yet.
According to rumors, Samsung Galaxy S8 will also carry this chip. We’ll find out for sure during the announcement on March 29. But the caveat is that the Galaxy S8 can only use Snapdragon 835 in certain regions, as it was in Galaxy smartphones. Do not forget that Samsung also produces its own chips – the Exynos series. Most likely, it will be Samsung’s own custom Exynos chips, not a new Qualcomm card.
Throwing a wrench in the works is the LG G6, which landed with the older Snapdragon 821 instead. This is due to the fact that Samsung reportedly imposed the first money on the initial delivery of Snapdragon 835 chips, closing LG on the market – if you believe Forbes. However, to fix this obvious loss, LG plans to include Snapdragon 835 in the LG V30 until the end of 2017.
We also expect other flagships, such as OnePlus 4 and HTC 11, to appear in the first half of this year, so they are all likely to use the processor. As for the latter, the president of HTC phones, Chialin Chang, suggested that the company expects widespread availability of Snapdragon 835 before releasing a new flagship:
“Every time a new processor with power appears, we can use it for a period of time, but were not identified nine months ago. This [Snapdragon 821 inside HTC Ultra U] is the best processor out there. ” When the next flagship processor comes, HTC will be one of the first to do it. ”
He continued: “When we look back, it will be clear.” HTC introduces the following several flagship processors. But it will be in another time period – not in the MWC, not for us or any other player, I’ll tell you for sure. “When the new processor appears, HTC will have another flagship.”
We also saw a leaked screenshot (via China), which suggests that HTC will indeed use the Snapdragon 835 chipset.
The R-8 has a field of view of 40 degrees + and HD-resolution, and R-9 offers a field of view of 50 degrees and a resolution of Full HD 1080p. Both devices will work with the Qualcomm Snapdragon VR SDK.

COWES, DESIGNS AND SPECIFICATIONS QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 835
The main news of Snapdragon 835 is that it is the first 10 nm chip Qualcomm. Snapdragon 821 and 820, for comparison, were built using a less efficient 14nm production process. The bottom line is that the 10-nm design allows the Snapdragon 835 to be more powerful and more efficient than the old chips.
But what does 10 nm mean and why is it better?
Well, the chip contains a circuit and transistors. These transistors are like tiny electronic switches that allow computer systems to do their job. The more transistors you have, the more things you can do in parallel, that is, at a certain time. Therefore, generally speaking, adding more transistors on the chip will make this chip more “powerful”.
Therefore, when the manufacturers of microcircuits use the term “10 nm”, they talk about the physical distance: 10 nanometers. It is 1000 times smaller than a strand of hair – or the size of several dozen water molecules.
The technical term denoting this distance as “half field device”, but it is a bit opaque. In fact, this means that between them there is a transit function and the same function on the transistor next to it. How far they are packed together.
Thus, the transistors on a 10nm chip are more tightly packed than on an older 16nm chip, which means that you can place more transistors on the circuit. And this, in turn, means.
It’s getting harder and harder to continue packaging transistors, so the beginning was 10 nm. Right now, both Samsung’s TSMC and Taiwan. That’s why Qualcomm enlisted the support of Samsung in the creation of Snapdragon 835 using the new 10-nm process FinFET.
“We are pleased to work closely with Qualcomm Technologies in the production of Snapdragon 835 using our 10 nm FinFET technology,” said Jong Shik Yoon, head of the foundry business of Samsung.
He added: “This cooperation is an important milestone for our foundry business, as it shows confidence in the advanced technologies for manufacturing Samsung chips.”
Qualcomm also confirmed that Snapdragon 835 will use its own Qualcomm processors from Kryo 280 with eight cores placed in the ARM big.LITTLE configuration. This means that four of the cores will be powerful, low-performing cores that perform more complex tasks, while the other four will be low-power, high-performance cores that handle more basic processing. This is the same setup that we saw in Snapdragon 810 in 2015, and very similar to the last quad-core A10 Fusion chip from Apple.
But pleasure does not stop there. Snapdragon 835 is a system-on-chip, which means that it contains more than just a processor. It will ship with its own Adreno 450 from Qualcomm, which should appear in any other Qualcomm chip. This is the successor to the Adreno 530, 519.2GFLOPS (519.2 billion operations per second), which was available up to 650 MHz. Therefore, we will assume that the Adreno 540 will be even better.
Finally, Snapdragon 835 features the latest Qualcomm modems – Snapdragon X16. It was announced back in February and supports download speeds of Cat.16 LTE. Qualcomm describes it as “fiber-like”, but what it really is. This means that a movie with a size of 4 KB, estimated with an average file size of 100 GB, can be downloaded in just 13 minutes. And Blu-ray movie, which on average is about 20 GB, was to appear in the fifth part of that time. Of course, simply having a Snapdragon X16 modem on the phone does not guarantee such speeds; You will need a network provider that can refuse such speeds – and none of the UK networks currently work.
QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 835 PRODUCTIVITY AND STANDARDS
So, we know what technology is in Snapdragon 835, but how does it actually work in practice?
Well, until we have a chance to evaluate the chip or get a hand on the phone with Snapdragon 835 inside, we can not say for sure. But we have some fantastic numbers from Qualcomm to worry about. Qualcomm believes that in comparison with Snapdragon 821, Snapdragon 835 can offer 27% more performance or 40% less power, depending on the configuration of the chip.
We saw some early third-party criteria, mind. Back in January, Xiaomi Mix EVO passed through the Geekbench with Snapdragon 835 on board, receiving 1.918 for a single-core test and 5.689 for a multi-core test. Then in February, the mystery device that controls the chip is managed even better. 2,004 single-core metric and an impressive 6233 on a multicore test.
But the main feature of Snapdragon 835 is the introduction of Quick Charge 4 Qualcomm, which should see that the charging time is reduced by 20% compared to the old Quick Charge 3.0. In fact, Qualcomm says that for “typical users of premium phones” Quick Charge 4 will expand the smartphone by five or more hours, spending only five minutes.
Speaking at the announcement, Alex Katozyan, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm, said: “Because of mobile devices, they are becoming more efficient and multifunctional, people tend to use them more. It is at this level and at the moment at a high level. Quick charge 4 places that require up to 50% battery charge in about 15 minutes or less, so you do not have to spend the whole day on the charging cable. ”
Quick Charge 4 also supports the USB-C-the-reversible connector and USB-PD (Power Delivery), which is Google’s recommendation for the USB specification for Android phones. And it comes with the latest version of Qualcomm INOV, a specially developed power management algorithm. The new version comes with real-time temperature control. This should help stop overheating of phones – if only Galaxy Note 7 has it, eh?
